Since I was a small child, I struggled from early trauma -- I just didn't know there was a name for it.   I had obsessive-compulsive disorder well into my adulthood, rocking and counting and rhyming incessantly.  I used maladaptive behaviors to cope with the turmoil inside, like dissociation, codependency, workaholism, relationship addiction, and self-mutilation.  Depression was a black undertow, sucking me down every. minute. of. every. day.   I was anxious and fearful.

That describes only some of my symptoms of mental illness and response to complex trauma.

Forward 60+ years later, through several types of therapies, medications, research, education, self-help groups and more, and my experience and strength is shared in this book.

It is beautifully written, and novel in how it is written. With vulnerability and bravery she offers a powerful understanding of the impact of trauma and the journey of finding her own truth.
